My friend Clare tested this smoothie for you and described it as ‘warming with the spices but still perfect for the summer heat in Chrissy - delish!’
 
I am still wildly experimenting with Christmas flavours and treats with less calories and sugar and of course minus the gluten for the holiday season and this Christmas smoothie fits in perfectly.
 
It’s kind of a dessert in itself but you can definitely have it as a meal replacement in case you overindulge at one of the Christmas meals.
 
This shake is high in antioxidants, fibre, protein and has bioavailable nutrients which are easily absorbed and digested.

INGREDIENTS

 

500 ml almond milk (DIY here)

2 dates

2 ripe bananas

1 tsp of cinamon

1 tsp of vanilla essence

1 tsp of Chinese Five Spices Blend*

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

 

* star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Szechwan pepper, fennel seeds

 

 

METHOD

 

Mix all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. You can add ice or frozen bananas for a cooling Australian summer smoothie or gently heat for a warming drink on a cold winter’s day.
